The Social Security Administration (SSA) launched a new online tool in December 2016 that allows Social Security disability claimants the ability to log into their online accounts and check on the status of a disability application or appeal. This new service is available for initial claims and appeals for Title II retirement, disability, and survivor’s benefits; Medicare; and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). This service is available to disability claimants regardless of whether the claims were filed online or with a Social Security representative.
The type of information provided includes:
- Date of filing;
- Current claim location;
- Scheduled hearing date and time;
- Re-entry numbers for incomplete applications;
- Servicing office location; and
- Claim or appeal decision.
If a Social Security disability claimant does not have a “my Social Security” online account, they can enroll at www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount.
Please understand that your Social Security disability lawyer should never know your “my Social Security” password and your disability lawyer is not allowed to establish an account for you or log into your account. Disability claimants may not be able to use “my Social Security” if they do not have access to a computer or cannot supply the information SSA requires to verify their identity. However, disability claimants can still check the status of their applications or appeals by phone (1-800-772-1213).
