Background And Education
Mr. Newlon began his legal career with the McCravy Law Firm after 13 years in the USAF both as an A-10 Thunderbolt II pilot and a NATO instructor. Before leaving the USAF, Mr. Newlon obtained a B.A. in English from The Citadel, an M.A. degree in Political Science from Midwestern State University, Wichita Falls, Tx., an A.A. degree in Paralegal Studies from Harford Community College, Bel Air, Md., and a certification in Accident Reconstruction from Norton AFB, Ca. After leaving the USAF, Jon obtained a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law. Mr. Newlon has taught higher education courses in business law at Lander University and Erskine College and alternative dispute resolution at Piedmont Technical College.
Current Practice
Mr. Newlon began in private practice in 1998. Mr. Newlon is licensed to practice in all South Carolina trial and appellate courts including Circuit Court, the South Carolina Court of Appeals, and the South Carolina Supreme Court. Mr. Newlon is also licensed to practice in Federal District Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals. Mr. Newlon has also been admitted to other states for various cases.
Professional Associations
Mr. Newlon is a member of the South Carolina Bar Association, the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association and the American Trial Lawyers Association. He is specially certified to mediate cases in South Carolina. He has also been selected as one of the Top 100 trial attorneys by the National Trial Lawyers Association. Also, Mr. Newlon is a certified USSF and SCHSL soccer referee with experience refereeing club, high school and college level matches. Mr. Newlon has been a member of the Greenwood SC Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors from 2021 until the present.
